Make the Most of Your Mind
Executive Functioning Coaching allows you to build the skills and the life that work best for you!
What Are Executive functioning (EF) skills?
EF skills are ways in which our brain makes it easy or challenging to execute tasks. There are many definitions and ways to break down this skill set. Consider some of the common skills needed to get stuff done:
planning and organizing
getting started
limiting distractions
managing emotions and stress
putting ideas together
flexibility
managing time
staying committed to the task
How coaching works
Individual coaching can help to define where there is a breakdown in executive functioning and to develop strategies and habits to overcome this obstacle. Sometimes, this requires the consistent practice of a new skill or habit while other times it requires an overhaul of your environment. Both are critical in taking ownership over your life.
Who benefits?
I work with a variety of people that will benefit from EF Coaching. Consider some of the following scenarios:
Students struggling to organize and plan school work
Anyone having difficulty managing their time, often losing track of time
Professionals struggling to meet deadlines and organize projects.
Teens or adults that are often losing things, missing appointments or are chronically late
Teens or adults that are easily overwhelmed by everyday tasks
Students that struggle to remember information for things like tests or presentations, even after studying sufficiently.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be diagnosed with ADHD to benefit from coaching?
Often we confuse a formal diagnosis of ADHD with general understanding of executive functioning. While some indicators of ADHD are a deficit in EF skills, we all have a strengths and areas for growth within our own skill sets.
What is the commitment to making a change in my life?
If you are willing to change, change is possible. That doesn’t mean it will be easy. The first task I take on with clients is to make a commitment of time to the process. This means a commitment to sessions with me but also a set amount of time each day to reflect and implement change. Typically, this is just 15-30 minutes a day but consistency is key!
How will I know if this works?
The first step to any coaching session is establishing measurable goals. Your goals may be to see a decrease in feeling overwhelmed or to get to work on time or to turn in every assignment in a given week. When we can measure these goals, you can start to see the progress and feel empowered to take on more challenges in your life that are keeping you from your own measure of success.
What will happen in our sessions?
The first session will be spent figuring out what isn’t working, where you are stuck and what needs to happen to get unstuck. From there, we will develop a list of strategies that will be unique to your circumstances. We will pinpoint the skills that are lacking and come up with specific tasks that will help you build those skills or create environments that play to the skills you already have.
What happens if I don’t see change?
It is important to me that you feel this process is useful. If you are not seeing the changes you want in your life even after tackling the strategies we have developed, there is no obligation to continue and I will work with you on a refund for the services received.
